The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth II on the Xbox 360 works. But thanks to relentless attempts to solve this problem, I'm happy to report that EA has gained a huge amount of ground in this ancient battle. The biggest stumbling block has been translating the precise controls offered by a keyboard-and-mouse setup to the obviously limited standard joypad configurations of console video game systems. To be able to bring a traditional real-time strategy game to a console - no keyboards and mice, thanks - has been something of an enigma over the years. This latest - and potentially last - entry to the franchise sees EA attempt something that countless other publishers and developers have tried and failed to do. All in all, fans of Middle-earth have been pleased as gamers. And for the most part, the games generated have been faithful to the source material and the Peter Jackson motion pictures. Once you’ve chosen a side you can then take them into a battle in the games impressively immersive single player mode. EA has been raking in vast sums of money with its official The Lord of the Rings license now for a good few years. The game itself throws you right into the Battle for Middle Earth (I wonder where they got the games name) where you must choose either the good guys or, as you’ve probably guessed, the bad guys.
